Board of Realtors plans candidate forum Oct. 28
The Tahoe Sierra Board of Realtors will host a forum Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 6 p.m. for candidates in the Nov. 3 election.
TSBR spokesperson John Falk said candidates from all Truckee races have been invited to the forum, including candidates for Truckee Town Council, Truckee Fire, Truckee Sanitary, Truckee-Donner Public Utility, Truckee-Donner Recreation and Park and Tahoe Forest Hospital districts.
Invitations were also sent to Nevada County candidates, including the county clerk-recorder and county assessor races.
The forum will take place in the Truckee-Donner Public Utility District boardroom on Donner Pass Road.
The Truckee-Donner Public Utility District has the largest number of candidates running, with incumbents Ron Hemig and Pat Sutton facing off against a slate of challengers, including Dan Cooley, Patrick McDonough, Jerry Bowes and Herb Gaarder.
Truckee Town Council incumbents Maia Schneider, Bob Drake and Don McCormack all filed for re-election, and will face challenger Edgar Stratton.
At the Tahoe Forest Hospital District, challenger Lee Auckenthaler will run for one seat against incumbents John Falk, Rob Eskridge and Leonard Shaheen.
Truckee-Donner Recreation and Park District’s three seats are also contested, with incumbents H. Peter Werbel and Geoff Stephens running against Paul Klein and appointed board member Kevin McCall.
Truckee Sanitary District incumbents Ron Sweet, Jerry Gilmore and Marjorie Adkerson will face challenges by Dorothy Wittmann and Michael Sullivan.
With three seats up for election, Truckee Fire Protection District incumbents K. Jerry Goulding, Gary Waters and Joseph Straub Jr. will run against challenger Ron Perea.
The Area 6 Trustee seat for Sierra Nevada College is also up for election Nov. 3. Incumbent Nancy Palmer will run against James Hinman, Jack Conner and Marianne Slade-Troutman.
Art Green of Nevada City and Todd Juvinall of Grass Valley are vying for the Nevada County Assessor’s seat.
Lorraine Jewett-Burdick of Grass Valley and Deni Dax of Nevada City are running for Nevada County Clerk-Recorder
Tahoe-Truckee Unified School District will not have an election. School board member John Wojcik filed for Area 5 and newcomer Mel Cone filed for Area 4, leaving vacant the Area 1 seat in Tahoe Donner formerly occupied by Debra Darby.
Changes in the school district divisions modified Area 4 to encompass Northstar, Brockway and Sierra Meadows, while Area 5 will encompass West Shore, Tahoe City, Squaw Valley and Alpine.
Truckee-Tahoe Airport District will also have no election, because the only two people to file were incumbents Don Bedard and Barbara Northrop.
