Body found in Boca chase search

TRUCKEE “-Authorities recovered a body, but not yet positively identified it, from Boca Reservoir in the search for a person who drove into the water Wednesday night.

According to the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office, the Truckee patrol tried to stop a gray-colored sedan Wednesday evening after receiving complaint of trespassing on railroad tracks, when the driver took off, leading officers on a chase.

The driver then turned off the road, into the reservoir, and began to swim away from law enforcement, according to the sheriff’s office.

Since then, officers, divers, and robotic search equipment had been looking in the reservoir and on the shore for the still-unidentified person.

“We had people walking the shoreline with the faint hope the person was able to make it to shore,” said Lt. John Kropp with Nevada County Sheriff’s. “We also had six divers and a robot from Nevada County and a total of 18 divers from Placer County.”

Divers recovered a body believed to be the driver at 12:45 p.m. Friday, Kropp said.

“We found I.D. in the car, but that doesn’t mean anything until the body is positively identified,” Kropp said.

The body will now be turned over to the coroner’s office for identification and cause of death, he said.
