Body of missing Truckee man found

The body of a missing Truckee man was found Tuesday in a rugged area near Truckee. The cause of his death is still under investigation.

Jesus Lopez Gayton, 48, was last seen by family members on July 4. They reported him missing to the Truckee Police Department July 5.

Tuesday, two men riding all-terrain vehicles near Coldstream Canyon called 9-1-1 to report finding a dead body alongside a dirt road in a very remote, rugged area.

Detectives from the Placer County Sheriff’s Department secured the scene and launched an investigation.

An autopsy performed Wednesday confirmed that the deceased was Gayton, but did not reveal a cause of death.
