DONNER SUMMIT, Calif. and#8212; Boreal Mountain Resort never has been one to wait around for winter.

The Donner Summit ski resort will become the first in the state to open when it fires up its Nugget Double Chair with access to one run on Friday. Boreal will then run its Castle Peak Quad on Saturday and Sunday accessing two runs.

Jon Slaughter, marketing director at Boreal, said he expects nothing less than and#8220;mayhemand#8221; when the lift starts spinning at 9 a.m.

and#8220;Weand#8217;re expecting a pretty big turnout. Weand#8217;re the first resort to open in California, so the place is going to be going nuts,and#8221; he said.

Slaughter said Boreal, with a base elevation of 7,200 feet, received 3 inches of snow during the start of the storm last Friday and Saturday, Oct. 22-23, before rain washed it away on Sunday. Another 2 inches fell after that.

Combined with the manmade snow blown onto the runs since then, Slaughter said the resort has a 6- to 18-inch base and#8212; plenty to set up jib features, and maybe even enough to build some jumps.

Lift tickets will be set at $30 on Saturday and Sunday. For more information, visit the resort website at http://www.rideboreal.com.
