Boulder blasting to slow 1-80 traffic

Traffic on Interstate 80 near Yuba Gap will be slowed and stopped this morning as boulders are blasted away.

Caltrans crews will be blasting to remove several large boulders from along I-80 near Yuba Gap today from 8 a.m. to noon, said Caltrans spokesman Mark Dinger.

East and westbound motorists will be slowed and stopped by the California Highway Patrol just east of the I-80-Highway 20 junction intermittently throughout the morning. Lengthy delays are not anticipated, Dinger said.

The work is necessary to break up and remove several large boulders that were dislodged from a slope above the roadway on Tuesday.

Changeable message signs and highway advisory radio will alert motorists to the project and the delays. Motorists can tune their radios to 1610 AM.
