BREAKING NEWS: Missing explosives sought near Truckee

Authorities are sweeping the Truckee area looking for explosives that were reported stolen from near Interstate 80 early Wednesday morning.

The Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the theft of the explosives, or for the recovery of the material.

“Anytime explosives are stolen there is a concern,” said Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal, explaining the federal agency’s response and reward offer.

Royal said the vault containing the explosives was “forcibly entered.”

Authorities said the theft could have occurred within the last 10 days. Investigators are releasing limited information on the suspected crime so that they can verify authentic tips by asking specific questions when calls come in.

Individuals with information can call the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office crime tip hotline at (530) 470-2400 or log on to the Web site at and select online services, crime tip form.
