Brisk wind moves into the area, snow dusting possible

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE ” A fast-moving cold front will brush across the Tahoe area this morning with a dusting of snow mainly in the upper elevations.

Skies are expected to begin clearing in the afternoon behind the front with highs topping out in the mid 40s. Southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph are forecast at lake level with ridge gusts up to 60 mph along the Sierra crest. Clear skies overnight will allow minimum temperatures to drop into the lower teens around the basin.

Mostly sunny but cool on Wednesday under a prevailing northeast wind pattern holding high temperatures in the lower to mid 40s at lake level.

Computer forecast models are showing another relatively dry cold front dropping south from the Pacific northwest on Friday but with little chance of seeing much accumulation of snow.

There is some hope of seeing more significant moisture by next Tuesday. Some longer range forecast charts are indicating a break through of a moist subtropical jet stream under the strong high pressure ridge which has been dominating the eastern Pacific the past few weeks. Stay tuned to see if this wet scenario evolves in the later computer model runs.
