Brewforia beer market coming to prime North Tahoe location

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — On the corner of Highway 28 and Northwood Boulevard, a banner decorates the old Grog N’ Grist/DiMaggio’s location that states, “Brewforia Coming Soon.”

Originally set to open July 2016, owner Rick Boyd is experiencing some setbacks due to the Washoe County permitting process.

“The building is 40 years old and had a number of tenants,” Boyd said.

He added that the previous business owners made a lot of improvements with the electrical and HVAC system, but didn’t give proper notice to the county.

“So now we’re paying the price for what hadn’t been done,” Boyd said.

Luckily, on July 25, Boyd received his demolition permit and expects to finish construction by the end of the week. Then, the health inspection and county permit can ideally come shortly after.

“Once we get the permit filed, the process goes pretty fast,” Boyd said. “But all of the contractors are swamped right now,” he says, due to the nature of everyone trying to get construction done within Tahoe’s four-month window of good weather.

Originally from Boise, Idaho, Boyd opened a couple of Brewforia beer markets/restaurants a few years ago that became very successful.

Wanting to expand, Boyd moved to Carnelian Bay, and was looking for a place to open a Brewforia in North Lake Tahoe.

“Being on a corner, this building has great exposure; it’s in a great location,” Boyd said.

He also mentioned that the infrastructure matched what he was looking for.

“There is a limited amount of available real estate in Lake Tahoe; you have to take what you can get,” he said. “But so many components (of the building) match up with our vision. We inherited the kitchen and the coolers from the previous owners, and we have plenty of space to grow.”

When open, the hybrid craft beer store/restaurant will carry a large selection of bottles, craft/specialty beers and a full bar of liquor and wine that can be consumed at the market or available to take home.

According to a May 2016 press release, the restaurant side of Brewforia will spin classic pub dishes by focusing on regionality to create something familiar but new, like offering a South Carolina-style pulled pork sandwich with a mustard-based BBQ sauce, or an Argentinian-style roasted prime rib sandwich with chimichurri and smoked provolone.

In addition to sandwiches, fresh salads, appetizers and house-smoked prime rib will be available.

“They will be nice additions to other offerings around town,” Boyd said.

Brewforia will also be complemented by Vinifera, the full bar that used to be DiMaggio’s.

Sharing a kitchen with Brewforia, the bar will feature an extensive wine-by-the-glass selection with rotating appellations, house-made draft cocktails and small plates, flat breads and salads.

The anticipated opening of Brewforia is set for mid-August, followed by the Vinifera to open in the fall.
