TRUCKEE, Calif. — Charlie and Diane White, longtime owners of Donner Lake Realty, announced the Donner Lake Realty sales division has joined Dickson Realty Truckee.

Sales will now be offered under the Dickson Realty banner at the 15947 South Shore Drive, Truckee address at Donner Lake.

Diane, along with son Chris and his wife Denelle, will continue to provide leasing and property management services under the Donner Lake Realty name, located at 15963 South Shore Drive, Truckee.

CALIFORNIA DREAMING

The Donner Lake Realty story begins when Carson and Violet (Vi) White returned to California in 1952 after Carson’s illustrious U.S. Navy career. His tenure included a tour aboard the USS Curtiss as Admiral Hoover’s top-secret Yeoman.

When the couple hit California once again, Carson pursued his love of snow skiing while working many jobs, including writing and reporting ski news. He was the Bay Area representative for California/Nevada Ski News, and worked at the Sacramento Bee and Berkeley Gazette. Carson, under the pen name “Kit Carson White,” was the San Francisco Examiner winter sports editor for more than 10 years. His media experience includes working at KGO Radio and as the KPIX-TV ski reporter.

Carson helped create and was the first president of the Northern California & Nevada Winter Sports Writer’s Association.

As a ski writer he covered winter sports activities worldwide, including France and Austria.

While covering the 1960 Olympics at Squaw Valley he met Lowell Thomas and helped form the U.S. Ski Writer’s Association (now the North American Snowsports Journalism Association) and organized an annual North/South ski race each spring at Yosemite. He has been nominated to the U.S. Ski Hall of Fame and was also a past-president of the Oakland Ski Club.

Carson officially moved his family to Donner Lake in 1960, when he was public relations director for Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows while selling area real estate. He began selling property at Donner Lake for the Donner Lake Development Company, then Swanson Realty and opened the original Donner Lake Realty office in 1973.

Carson was Truckee-Donner Chamber of Commerce and Truckee Lions Club president and helped form and served as the chairman of the Donner Lake Property Owner’s Association. He was a Life Member in Lions International and was twice Grand Marshall for the Truckee Fourth of July parade.

NEXT GENERATION

Charlie became Broker in 1978, and along with wife Diane, has continuously operated the business for more than 40 years. Notable moments in Charlie’s career include three years of service in the Army Signal Corps, his tenure as president of the Tahoe Sierra Board of Realtors in 2004 and being awarded the prestigious “Realtor of the Year” awards in 1988 and 2005.

He also has served in leadership roles on numerous local agencies and organizations.
