In 10 years, A Step Above’s Gary Grosjean has seen it all.
From the market crash and recession that followed, through the great snow years and the current extreme drought, the founder of the region’s premiere home care and maintenance provider was able to establish and quickly grow a successful business by staying focused on core principles relating to always exceeding client expectations.
Grosjean was well aware of the challenges he faced when starting the firm 10 years ago, and the “95/5” rule for new companies — the one that states 95 percent of start-ups fail in the first five years.
But the veteran music industry tour, stage, and production manager for acts such as The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Chicago, Whitesnake, Alice Cooper, Duran Duran and others has built the firm’s decade-long success on using the exact same set of skills and talents that made him successful in the music industry — listening carefully to his client’s exacting needs, demonstrating an overwhelming attention to detail, and always going that extra “step above” and beyond what’s expected.
“It’s really the same job I’ve always done,” says Grosjean. “I’ve gone from caring for the needs of high-end musicians to caring for the needs of high-end homeowners. Both demand ultimate trust in your abilities — as the demands on their time can be overwhelming.”

The Truckee resident and single dad of three saw the potential and the need for a well-run home care business while working as a project manager for John Brink Construction, a respected high end builder in the area.
