JAX at the Tracks event in Truckee raises $3,000 for Tahoe Food Hub

TRUCKEE, Calif. — JAX at the Tracks recently held a Farm to School Fundraising Feast for Tahoe Food Hub, raising $3,000 for the nonprofit’s Farm to School Fund.
This fund brings local food into school meals and educates students on where their food comes from, how it was grown, and how their food purchases can impact the environment, community, and their health.
At the late January event, JAX offered a delicious buffet with food purchased from local farmers of the Tahoe Food Hub. There was a packed raffle, drink specials, and live music by Jenni Charles and Jesse Dunn of Dead Winter Carpenters.
“The participation from our community on this program has been overwhelming,” says Bud Haley, owner of JAX at the Tracks. “We are so proud to be able to support such a great cause with these donations.”
Since July of 2015, JAX has been collecting donations from patrons who have the option to add $1 or more to their bill. JAX is encouraging locals and visitors to help contribute to this fund through the end of the current school year.
JAX also offers a Farm to School Salad on its menu, featuring a rotating selection of the most recent harvest from local farms. Proceeds from each salad are donated to Tahoe Food Hub’s Farm to School (F2S) Fund.
Combined, the salad and check donations have raised an additional $600 for the F2S Fund.
“Having community support helps us provide more Farm to School services,” says Susie Sutphin, director of the Tahoe Food Hub. “In addition to getting local farm food into school meals, we are organizing school tours at our education farm, developing farm signage for school cafeterias, and supporting area schools with their personal Farm to School efforts.”
Further, a total of $1,500 from the Farm to School Fundraising Feast is being donated directly to the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District to help the district buy food from small, local, farms.
