TAHOE-TRUCKEE, Calif. — Two more Tahoe-Truckee ski resorts are set to open this weekend as the 2015-16 season roars ahead.

Prior to Thursday — when a wet storm was hammering parts of the region with snow, and other parts with rain — Homewood Mountain Resort had received more than 28 inches of snow so far this season.

The snow from a series of early season storms — coupled with several days of snowmaking — will allow the West Shore resort to open top to bottom on Friday, Dec. 11, for skiers and snowboarders of all ability levels looking to make their first turns of the season.

Madden and Old Homewood Express are both scheduled to open. Additionally, four surface lifts will offer access for beginner skiers and riders as well as the Children’s Center.

“We are thrilled to have received three storms in quick succession and to be watching another one forming off the coast,” said Kevin Mitchell, general manager of Homewood Resort. “Our snowmakers are fully taking advantage of the cold temperatures to make as much snow as they can, which will help us open more terrain as soon as possible.”

Meanwhile, in Truckee, Tahoe Donner Downhill Ski Area also is scheduled to open Friday. For initial operations, the Snowbird Chair and the Learning Center Conveyor will be open.

More terrain will be added as soon as possible. Operating status is conditions permitting; preview the conditions report online for the daily update or call ahead for the latest report. As part of opening weekend, guests will be treated to Customer Appreciation Day on Sunday, Dec. 13, which means lift tickets are just $5 for all.

“We are excited to open (Friday) on schedule,” said Robert McClendon, Tahoe Donner Downhill Ski Area manager. “Mother Nature has been great to us these last few weeks, and our new Silent Polecat snowmaking system with help ensure this season is one of our best yet.”

Friday’s opening means the downhill resort will join three additional winter venues already open at Tahoe Donner — Tahoe Donner Snowplay, Tahoe Donner Cross Country Ski Area and the Winter Golf Academy.
