Sierra Sun, North Lake Tahoe Bonanza appoint co-general managers
TRUCKEE, Calif. — Ben Rogers and Kevin MacMillan have been named co-general managers of the Sierra Sun and North Lake Tahoe Bonanza.
MacMillan has been editor of both papers since 2009. Rogers has been general manager of the weekly Grand Junction Free Press in Colorado since 2013.
MacMillan previously was a news reporter for the papers, and sports editor of the Bonanza. He is a graduate of Central Michigan University. He will continue to oversee news operations at the Sun, Bonanza and SierraSun.com.
“I’m thrilled to work with Ben to lead our business operations as we endeavor to provide unmatched levels of community news, recreation and entertainment content for our residents and visitors,” said MacMillan, 31. “It’s been a pleasure working with the communities across the greater Truckee-North Lake Tahoe region the past several years, and Ben and I are excited to grow these relationships and become even greater community partners.”
Rogers comes to Truckee and North Lake Tahoe after working as general manager and editor of the weekly Free Press in Grand Junction, Colo.
He previously was a business development seller at the Summit Daily News in Frisco, Colo., and a sales account manager at the Nevada Appeal in Carson City, Nev.
He is a graduate of Ft. Lewis College in Durango, Colo. He will oversee the advertising and sales operations at the Sun and Bonanza.
“I am greatly looking forward to being a part of this community,” said Rogers, 27. “The Sierra Sun and Bonanza are solid operations, and I am looking forward to being a part of this team of hardworking journalists and marketing professionals.”
Rogers and MacMillan replace Sun-Bonanza Publisher Michael Gelbman, who resigned, effective Oct. 23, to become advertising director of the daily The Independent in Ashland, Ky.
“I’d like to thank Michael for his service to the newspapers and the communities served by the Sun and the Bonanza,” said Colorado Mountain News Media General Manager Jim Morgan, who oversees Swift Communications-owned operations in resort markets in California, Colorado and Nevada. “Ben and Kevin will be a solid management team for the newspapers. Both share the same passion for quality journalism and both bring a high level of energy to their work.”
