South Lake Tahoe to host workshop on vacation rentals

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — Have a thing or two to say about vacation home rentals? Now’s your chance.

The city of South Lake Tahoe is hosting a public workshop, open to all community members, to discuss how vacation home rentals (VHRs) are affecting local neighborhoods.

It will take place at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Centre at 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd. on Wednesday, Nov. 16, from 6-9 p.m.

The event is part of the data-gathering process for a study commissioned by the city to determine the socio-economic impact of VHRs on South Lake Tahoe.

The study — conducted by Michael Baker International and California State University’s Public Policy and Administration Department — will determine the impact under three different conditions: no changes to existing policies, moratorium on new VHR permits, and phasing out VHR permits.

The study’s project manager, Amy Sinsheimer, said the workshop will be an “open house style.”

“We will have stations with various topics on the vacation home realm, and ask questions and take down answers from participants as they walk through,” said Sinsheimer.

“It’s part of the initial outreach. In the next weeks there will be a survey that’s available online, accessible through the city’s website.”
