NORDEN, Calif. — Sugar Bowl Resort last week announced the hiring of Greg Dallas as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Dallas will lead all aspects of resort operations, which include Sugar Bowl Resort, Royal Gorge Cross Country, the Village at Sugar Bowl real estate, and homeowner services, according to a news release.

Dallas, who was formerly Chief Operation Officer at both Mammoth Mountain and June Mountain, will begin is new role effective Sept. 28.

He will succeed Rob Kautz, who has been CEO of the Donner Summit ski area since 1987, and has worked there since 1976.

Kautz announced his retirement in April, although he reportedly will continue to work at the resort through June 2016. He will also remain on Sugar Bowl Corporation’s board of directors.

Dallas’ career at Mammoth Mountain spanned 15 years of resort leadership, culminating in the oversight of all operations at Mammoth and June Mountain starting in 2013.

As part of Mammoth’s leadership team, he helped grow the resort’s revenue to $150 million and its skier visits to 1.6 million, according to the news release.

“Rob has done incredible work building a world-class ski operation, acquiring new assets such as Royal Gorge, and establishing a real estate and hospitality company,” Dallas said in a statement about him taking over for Kautz. “The next phase of Sugar Bowl will focus on enhancing the Village, maximizing new assets and developing a sustainable, vibrant resort experience.

“The access the resort provides to year-round, alpine activities is simply unique and undiscovered.”

Prior to joining Mammoth, Dallas studied astrodynamics at the Air Force Academy, served seven years in the U.S. Air Force procuring and operating space systems, and earned his MBA from the University of California, Irvine.

Dallas is also a backcountry skier and an avid rock and ice climber, according to Sugar Bowl. He sits on numerous boards and committees, including the National Ski Area Association.
