TRUCKEE, Calif. — The Auto & Tire Doctor, along with Auto Glass Express and High Sierra Cruisers, announced a partnership in the fall of last year to give away a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee to a needy family in the Truckee area.

After more than 50 nominations, the businesses last week announced Tahoe Vista resident Kara Fox was chosen as the winner.

“Truckee has once again proven to be a caring community. Thank you to all who took the time to nominate someone,” Cindy Lain of the The Auto & Tire Doctor said in a statement. “What an amazing moment for all of us to see Kara Fox receive her new vehicle.”

Fox, who is the associate editor of news for Moonshine Ink, is a single mom whose only family is her 8-year-old son Julian, who has cerebral palsy and also has seizures daily due to epilepsy.

“Kara spends time teaching and talking to other families faced with treatment options and experiencing similar challenges,” Lain said. “Those who know Kara say she always has a positive attitude and wears a smile no matter what struggles life has handed her.”

The smiles kept coming on Jan. 7, too, when Kara was awarded the Jeep, which had a trunk full of groceries donated by one of the Auto Doctor’s caring customers, and a full year of AAA membership, generously donated by the local AAA office.
