Cal senator threatens subpoena over greenhouse gas dispute

WASHINGTON (AP) _ Senator Barbara Boxer says she may ask the Senate environmental committee she chairs to subpoena the EPA after the agency failed to turn over documents on California’s greenhouse gas dispute Friday.

Boxer and Congressman Henry Waxman, a committee chairman in the House, want the Environmental Protection Agency to back up its decision to deny California permission to implement a law slashing greenhouse gas emissions from cars and trucks.

The EPA missed deadlines set by Boxer and Waxman this week but said it would provide a further response to Boxer on Friday.

The agency says it is continuing to gather documents. Boxer says that looks like a cover-up.
