Candidate Ose writes big check

WASHINGTON (AP) ” Former Rep. Doug Ose has loaned his campaign for Congress another $475,000, bringing spending from his personal fortune to more than $2 million in the Northern California race.

Ose is trying to defeat state Sen. Tom McClintock in the June 3 Republican primary in California’s 4th Congressional District, the seat now held by Rep. John Doolittle.

On Thursday, McClintock reported raising just more than $1 million in the campaign cycle to-date and spending nearly that much as of May 14.

McClintock does not have a personal fortune to draw on as Ose does but is getting a boost from the anti-tax group Club for Growth. It is raising money and running television and radio ads on his behalf.

Theirs is the state’s most hotly contested primary as McClintock and Ose aim to succeed Doolittle in a district that sprawls from Sacramento east to the Nevada border and north to Oregon.

The winner is expected to face Democrat Charlie Brown in November.
