Catch the Reading Bug!
1. What’s the best kind of computer bug?
2. Why did the insect get thrown out of the park?
3. What do you get when you eat caterpillars?
Why the silly bug jokes? This year’s theme for the summer reading program is Catch the Reading Bug. Sign-ups start next Wednesday, June 18, the day school ends and summer officially begins for Truckee kids.
Children, ages 5 to12, who sign up for the program will receive a special theme-related bookmark and a reading record with stickers to keep track of each hour of reading they do this summer. For every five hours of reading logged, participants will earn a prize. This year’s prizes include a tantalizing assortment of small buggy treasures and paperback books to keep. If participants complete 25 hours of reading, they will earn the grand prize: a gift certificate to the Bookshelf at Hooligan’s Rock!
Every Wednesday from June 25 through July 30 at 4 p.m., the Truckee Library will be hosting fun-filled special events including a Catch the Reading Bug kick-off party, a professional magic show, a special recycling program with Nichole Dorr, an afternoon of buggy crafts, music with Bonnie Lockhart, and an encore visit by wild animals to the library with Wild Things, Inc. All programs are free and open to the public.
Also, back by popular demand for the third year in a row is the “Find the Hidden Book” contest that will take place from June 26 through July 30. Each day a gift-wrapped book will be hidden on the shelves somewhere in the children’s wing. The first summer reading program participant to find the book will receive a prize.
So mark your calendars now and plan to drop by the Truckee Library when school lets out next week to sign up for Catch the Reading Bug. It’s a great way for our kids to continue developing their reading skills over the summer months! And we promise more silly bug jokes…
