Celebrate the holidays in Historic Truckee

Business offer Passport Savings, extended hours and special events

Historic downtown Truckee kicks off the holiday celebrations with the annual Children’s Tree Decorating and Lighting Dec. 4 from 4 to 6 p.m.

Elementary school students decorate festive evergreens to adorn the downtown. Cider and cookies will be served and carolers will sing holiday music. Santa will be on hand to greet the children with candy canes and cheer. Festivities continue each Thursday, Friday and Saturday during December with the Truckee Holiday Passport for Savings. Area businesses are offering coupons and discounts redeemable with the passport, which may be picked up at the Truckee Donner Visitor Center, 10065 Donner Pass Road. Participants may enter a drawing for prizes to be held Jan. 1, 2009.

Businesses will be remain open until 8 p.m. each Thursday, Friday and Saturday during the month of December. Special evenings include: Ladies Night, Dec. 11 with free gift wrapping, champagne and hors d’ oeuvres and Men’s Night, Dec. 18 with free gift wrapping, beer, wine and snacks.
