Cement truck crash kills driver

Josh Miller/Sierra Sun An single vehicle accident on old Highway 40 on Oct. 15 took the life of a cement truck driver.

A cement truck driver died on Friday when his vehicle rolled over on Donner Pass Road near the west end of Donner Lake.Djuan Williams, 24, an employee of J.J. Mixer Rentals out of Stockton, was killed in the accident, which occurred around noon, Truckee Police said.

The cement truck failed to negotiate a turn just west of South Shore drive and slammed into rocks on the side of the road before rolling over and breaking apart. The police have not determined the cause of the accident, but they are inspecting the wrecked vehicle, its maintenance history and Williams’ driving record.

“Either [the driver] lost control due to speed or there is a possibility that there was brake failure,” Lt. Jeff Nichols said on Friday.The vehicle was carrying a full load of cement when it crashed. The wreck caused gas and cement spills on Donner Pass Road, which forced the road’s closure for several hours Friday afternoon.
