UPDATE 5 p.m.

UPDATE, Friday 9:30 a.m.:

I-80 remains closed. SR-89 south is now closed between Truckee and Alpine meadows due to multiple collisions in front of Squaw Valley.

I-80 is closed this morning due to heavy snow. There is no estimated time of reopening.

I-80 westbound is closed at State Line.

I-80 Eastbound is Closed at Applegate.

I-80 is R2: Chains are required on all vehicles except four wheel drive vehicles with snow tires on all four wheels from Truckee to Drum Forebay in both directions.

Trucks are Minimum.

SR-89 is R2: Chains are required on all vehicles except four wheel drive vehicles with snow tires on all four wheels at Pickett's junction to US-50
R1 Squaw to Truckee.
R1 Truckee to the Sierra County Line.

SR-267 is R1: Chains are required – snow tread tires allowed from Truckee to Northstar.
R2 Northstar to Kings Beach.

SR-28 is R1: Chains are required – snow tread tires allowed from Tahoe City to State Line.

Chains are required on all vehicles, except 4-wheel drive vehicles with snow tires on all four wheels, from 1 mile east of Baxter in Placer County to the Donner Lake Interchange, the California Department of Transportation said at 1:23 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14.

An overnight snowstorm has made for difficult driving conditions and led to chain requirements for travel on Interstate 80, the California Department of Transportation said on Wednesday morning, March 14.

Chains are required for eastbound traffic on all vehicles, except 4-wheel drive vehicles with snow tires on all four wheels, from Cisco in Placer County to Truckee in Nevada County.

Chains are required for westbound traffic on all vehicles, except 4-wheel drive vehicles with snow tires on all four wheels, from Truckee to 2.5 miles east of the junction of State Route 20 in Nevada County.
