Chase that started in Reno ends near Boreal

Sherry Mays

Two Reno juveniles who stole a car in Reno led Nevada and California Highway patrols on a chase that ended on Donner Summit early yesterday morning, according to CHP reports.

The chase began near Robb Drive on Interstate 80, just west of Reno. Once over the California state line, CHP officers followed the 1991 Yugo from the Hirschdale Road exit.

CHP laid down spike strips to stop the car near the CHP Inspection Station, but the car never stopped.

The tires flattened then fell off, only leaving the rims, but the juveniles continued driving westward, said CHP officer Jay Carpenter.

When the car experienced mechanical problems, it came to a stop at the Boreal Ridge Ski Area exit on Interstate 80.

The 14- and 16-year-old boys were arrested shortly after 1 a.m. on counts of auto theft, possession of a firearm, driving without a license and failure to yield to authorities.
