CHP officer hurt during high-speed pursuit

A California Highway Patrol officer was injured Saturday night during a high-speed pursuit of a motorcyclist.

At about 10 p.m. Saturday, Officer James Giraudo was pursuing an unidentified motorcyclist northbound on Highway 89 south when he attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Squaw Valley Road, according to a CHP release.

As he was making the turn, Giruado lost control of his CHP cruiser and struck a light pole. The vehicle rotated backwards and ended up in a ditch on the northwest corner of the intersection, according to the CHP.

Other CHP officers and crews from Squaw Valley Fire extricated Giruado. He was flown to Renown Medical Center in Reno where he was treated for moderate injuries.

Meanwhile, the motorcycle was found abandoned on the golf course in Squaw Valley, the CHP said. The rider is being sought.

Anyone with information about the accident or the identity of the motorcycle rider can call the CHP at (530)582-7570.
