CIMBL volunteers tidy up Truckee

JESSICA LAND, Sierra Sun

Last Thursday a group of dedicated Truckee residents began cleaning up downtown from Donner Pass Road to Donner Lake. The five volunteers filled 20 trash bags.

“I like to walk around town a lot,” said Laurel Lippert. “I’ve thought the town needed to be cleaned up for a while.” Lippert organized the effort, with support from the Auburn-based group, Citizens Involved Means Better Living.

CIMBL is just getting started in Truckee thanks to Lippert’s initiative and support from founder Hal Albertson. He donated vests and pick-up sticks and the Town of Truckee Public Works Department provided trash bags and removal. Albertson said he wants to help CIMBL get started in Nevada County.

CIMBL is a non-profit volunteer organization that focuses on clean-up but has also provided flood relief and food and clothing drives in the past.

Lippert said she hopes Truckee CIMBL will get together once a month for similar projects. She plans to clean up West River Street, 89 South and Route 267 next. She said it is just a matter of getting residents together.

“We need a lot of people because it’s hard to do with just a few,” she said.

Despite the small turn-out last week, the group had a good time and said they felt good about their accomplishment.

Lippert said she believes “a clean town is a town that stays clean.”
