SOUTH LAKE TAHOE ” A mild and dry day is in store for our region today ahead of a potentially significant change in the pattern by Thursday that may finally have the plows and shovels out and the ski resorts smiling.

For today, expect a fair amount of mid- and high-level cloudiness that should slowly thicken throughout the day. High temperatures should climb into the mid 40s to near 50 with generally light winds.

For tonight under overcast skies, temperatures will be mild, generally in the mid 20s to near 30. As of now the National Weather Service in Reno, NV has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the entire Eastern Sierra from Thursday afternoon through Friday.

Preliminary estimates are for 6 to 12 inches below 7,000 feet with 1 to 2 feet above 7,000 feet. The heaviest amounts look to be from South Lake Tahoe to Mammoth where locally higher amounts may fall in the higher elevations along the Sierra of Alpine County.
