Cold air heading into weekend

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE ” Colder air is headed our way as several upper level disturbances drop south from the Pacific Northwest ushered in on a northerly jet stream.

Partly cloudy skies this morning will give way to more sunshine this afternoon with high temperatures pushing into the mid and upper 40s around the lake. Lows tonight are forecast to drop into the teens under mostly clear skies.

A cold front will push across the area on Friday with highs in the mid to upper 30s around the lake. Colder air aloft on Friday with a weak upper level low pressure system should create enough instability to generate widely scattered snow showers around the Tahoe Basin through Saturday morning.

Computer models are showing very little in the way of snow accumulations with this system and should mainly provide a dusting of snow at lake level or an inch or two in the higher elevations by Saturday morning.

Longer-range forecast models showing a push of subtropical moisture into Northern California on Tuesday with mild temperatures and high snow levels. Stay tuned to see if this will be a major pattern change or a temporary blip to our existing dry weather.
