Cold front to bring light snow Christmas night, chilly Wednesday

LAKE TAHOE ” After a clear and cold Christmas Eve look for increasing mid and high clouds today with highs topping out in the mid to upper 30s around the lake.
The approaching cold front will bring increasing southwest winds 15 to 30 mph this evening with gusts to 80 mph along the Sierra crest.
Snow with light accumulations are expected along the cold front late tonight into Wednesday morning.
The narrow and fast moving front is expected to drop between 1 to 3 inches of snow in the upper elevations of the Tahoe area with an inch or less at lake level by Wednesday afternoon.
Very cold air pushing in behind this front will keep temperatures in the mid 20s at lake level on Wednesday afternoon with the possibility of some lake effect snow showers developing on the south and east shores of the lake.
For skiers hitting the slopes on the day after Christmas be prepared for temperatures in the teens at the 8000 foot level.
The next weather system to affect the area should bring light to moderate snow Thursday night into Friday with accumulation estimated to be around 6 to 12 inches labove 7000 feet and up to 6 inches at lake level by Friday evening.
