Cold front to sweep across area today

A fast moving cold front will bring gusty winds and much cooler temperatures along with a few snow showers mostly in the higher elevations today.
Highs today are forecast to reach the upper 30s to lower 40s ahead of the front this morning then cooling to the lower to mid 30s behind the front in the afternoon. Brisk winds around 15 to 30 mph from the southwest are forecast to develop ahead of the front this morning shifting to the northeast in the afternoon.
Ridge top winds are expected in the 50 to 70 mph range today increasing to around 90 mph from the northeast tonight into Thursday morning. Lows tonight are forecast to drop into the single digits to lower teens at lake level with clearing skies.
A cool but sunny day is on tap for Thursday with highs in the upper 30s to lower 40s around the lake. Northeast winds around 10 to 20 mph at lake level and gusts over 70 mph along the Sierra crest will produce much lower wind chill temperatures.
Pleasant weather is forecast to return for Friday into the weekend as high pressure rebuilds over the area bringing sunny skies and above normal daytime temperatures back into the upper 40s to lower 50s around the lake.
