Cold, snow in forecast

Staff reports

Truckee trick-or-treaters might want to bundle up before they hit the streets next week.

A large storm system was predicted to move through the area as of Wednesday morning, with cold temperatures and snowy weather called for through Halloween.

The National Weather Service was predicting that snow levels would drop to 6,000 feet in the Truckee area overnight Wednesday, with snow accumulations of two to four inches above 6,500 feet by Thursday morning.

Temperatures will take a drastic drop by Thursday, with highs only predicted to reach the high 40s through the weekend and lows down to the mid-twenties overnight.

Long-range forecasts call for a clearing trend by Nov. 1, with temperatures possibly remaining cooler.
