LAKE TAHOE ” A cold northerly flow in the wake of yesterdays cold front along with increasing cloud cover will keep daytime temperatures in the 20s today.
A large area of Pacific moisture is forecast to spread into Northern California associated with warm frontal lifting as this mild air is forced to ascend over the cold air mass currently in place across the Great Basin and Sierra.
This warm over running or warm frontal pattern will generate light snow in the Truckee-Tahoe Basin area beginning late this afternoon and continuing into Friday.
Snow levels are expected to rise very slowly but should remain as snow in the Tahoe Basin-Truckee area into Friday with cold air trapped in the lower elevations in this stable airmass.
Low temperatures tonight will be a bit milder due to cloud cover keeping minimum reading in the teens to lower 20s.
Snow fall should be generally light but total storm accumulations of 6 to 12 inches are possible above 7,000 feet and up to 6 inches at lake level over a 48 hour period by Saturday.
Motorist traveling during this busy holiday period should keep updated with the latest weather and road conditions before departing.
