Commons Beach to be re-turfed
Sierra Sun
Beginning later this month, the Tahoe City Public Utility District will renovate the Commons Beach turf.
More than a $15,000 cost to the district, the sod on Commons Beach needs to be replaced. When staff evaluated the turf in fall of 2006, they predicted it would remain functional through 2008. But despite maintenance efforts, the sod deteriorated at a quicker rate. Due to Tahoe Regional Planning Agency restrictions on fertilizing the turf area, Commons Beach will require renovations about every three years, district staff say.
The district’s board of directors doesn’t want to eat a $15,000 cost every three years and have directed staff to look into fertilizer options.
