Controlled burns planned this week for west, south shores

Sun staff report

LAKE TAHOE and#8212; The U.S. Forest Service intends to set small fires to clear out underbrush this week on the west and south shores of Lake Tahoe.

Fuels management crews began work Tuesday on the west shore near the Timberland area. The south shore operations are planned on Kingsbury Grade near Stateline.

Agency officials say residents and visitors can expect to see smoke from the fire project areas. They say smoke-sensitive residents should consider staying indoors and keeping doors, windows and outside vents closed. The work may continue through the end of the week depending on the weather.
