Cool and dry today and Thursday, snow Friday

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE ” After a chilly, 16-degree start this morning at 6:30 a.m., temperatures are expected to rise today into the mid 40s under mostly sunny skies and light winds.

A series of weak disturbances dropping south from western Canada will bring periods of clouds and brisk winds beginning Thursday and culminating with a chance of snow showers late Friday into Saturday morning.

Temperatures are expected to peak in the mid to upper 40s on Thursday then dropping into the upper 30s and lower 40s around the basin on Friday.

Overnight lows will stay mostly in the teens at lake level with readings in the 20s above the valley inversions. While little snow accumulations are forecast with the snow showers Friday, motorist planning travel over the Sierra passes for the weekend should stay tuned for the latest weather updates.

We’re still keeping an eye on a possible weather change next week around Tuesday which could bring a long fetch of Pacific moisture into Northern California as a westerly jet stream breaks under the Eastern Pacific high pressure ridge. Stay tuned to see if longer-range computer models come to a consensus on this development.
