Cougar girls pick up first hoops victory

The Alder Creek Middle School girls basketball team got into the win column with a 24-16 home victory against Eagle Valley.

The Cougars are now 1-2 in league play.

Alder Creek took control of the game by playing a solid zone defense and winning the rebounding war. Annie Reiswig led all rebounders with eight boards. Kiersten Knoppel followed with five and Aleigh Krug bagged another five.

Kyrsta Murphy played exceptional defense, along with Angelina Sahlberg, shutting down the Eagle Valley’s big center. Murphy also had four steals and five points.

Allie Velquette led a balanced scoring attack by hitting two outside shots, while Carly Maurer also chipped in four. Kaite Churchman also scored for the Cougars.

Bridgette Lebel, Katie Mohun, Mackenzie Spaich and Clare DePew all shared time at point guard, running the offense.
