County races, library tax top June 2 ballot issues
Truckee voters have their choice of a full slate of candidates in the county election Saturday, with candidates vying for the positions of Nevada County Sheriff, municipal court judge, district attorney, clerk-recorder, and assessor.
Voters in some areas of Truckee will also cast ballots for the Placer County Superintendent of Schools.
In the race for the Nevada County Sheriff’s position, incumbent Sheriff Troy Arbaugh of Grass Valley will square off against challenger Keith Royal, a sheriff’s administrative lieutenant, also of Grass Valley.
Incumbent Judge Al Dover of Nevada City will seek to hold onto his position against challenger Leland Moglen of Nevada County.
In the assessor’s race, five people are competing for the position – Placer County appraiser Dale Flippin of Lake of the Pines, Nevada County Assessor’s system administrator Art Green of Nevada City, former county supervisor Todd Juvinall of Nevada City, attorney Michael Lasich of Penn Valley and appraiser Ben Nowland of Nevada City.
Attorney Jim Dremman of Grass Valley is running against incumbent Nevada County District Attorney Michael Ferguson.
Three women and one man are campaigning for the position of Nevada County Clerk-Recorder, vacated by Bruce Bolinger, who is retiring this year. Candidates for the position include deputy elections clerk Deni Dax of the
Nevada County Clerk Recorder’s Office, mortgage broker Steave Evans of Grass Valley, corporate office manager Barbara Hunyada of Grass Valley, and former news director Lorraine Jewett-Burdick, also of Grass Valley.
Placer County School Superintendent candidates include Bud Nobili of Roseville, currently Placer’s chief deputy school superintendent; businessman Toby Richardson of Newcastle, and Leo Sandoval of Roseville, a retired assistant director of the California State Department of education.
Running unopposed in the election are Nevada County Auditor Bruce Bielefelt of Rough and Ready and Nevada County Treasurer-Tax Collector E. Christina Dabis.
