Court set for day care owner charged with child abuse

Julie Rogers, the Truckee day care provider accused of shaking a 5-month-old girl in her care and causing serious brain injuries, will go before the Nevada County Superior Court in Truckee for a pretrial hearing on June 28.According to court documents, Rogers has pled not guilty to one charge of felony child abuse. The charge against Rogers, the owner of Snowy Mountain Daycare in Truckee, stems from a Jan. 18 incident in which Rogers reported that she tripped and fell with an infant in her arms.Doctors at Tahoe Forest Hospital, where the child was initially taken, were unable to find any external injuries to the baby but did find severe internal injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome, leading investigators to begin a criminal investigation of Rogers.Rogers’ license to provide child care has temporarily been revoked by the California Community Care Licensing Division, pending a hearing in regard to the current allegations of child abuse. In addition, Rogers’ own children were placed in temporary foster care by Child Protective Services due to allegations of child abuse within her own family, according to Truckee police. Further charges may be filed stemming from those allegations.Rogers’ children have since been returned to the care of her husband.
