Cover It Live recap: Tahoe Truckee school district meeting

KINGS BEACH, Calif. and#8212; Bill Kraus resigned from the school district’s board of trustees last week, and the board is expected to decide this week if it fills his position via a special election or through an appointment.

In his letter of resignation dated March 5 to the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District school board, Kraus stated, and#8220;Effective March 12, 2010, I hereby resign from the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District Board of Trustees, as I will be unable to fulfill the residency requirement after that date.and#8221;

The school district announced Kraus’ resignation on Friday, March 12.

According to Wednesday’s meeting agenda, in order to cut costs, staff recommends the board appoint Kraus’ position since an election for his and two other seat will be held this November.

Steve Dickinson, TTUSD assistant superintendent of finance, will give his second interim report for the school budget during Wednesday’s meeting.

Dickinson said in addition to the budget review he will also explain the district’s reserve funds, in the difference between what funds can be spent and#8212; about 4 percent or $1.8 million and#8212; and the funding restricted for financial emergency and#8212; about $5.8 million or 12 percent.

Dickinson said there are no layoffs anticipated for the coming year and, unlike many districts statewide, TTUSD is financially and#8220;ahead of the ball.and#8221;
