TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; People interested in a proposed senior housing center packed council chambers Wednesday night.

Opinions varied on the project, called Pollard Station, which would add a 112,000-square-foot lodge and six condo buildings to the Hilltop area, near Cottonwood Restaurant overlooking downtown.

While most people agreed that the need for such a project exists in Truckee, many thought it didn’t fit Hilltop.

“The need for senior housing is critical … but having said that I’m having trouble with the extent of the project,” said Heather Gustafson, one of the planning commissioners.

The planning commission did not make a decision on Pollard Station, but expressed significant reservations about the size of the project and the need to change the Hilltop Master Plan.
