Crash on Northwoods leaves one critically injured

A Truckee woman was critically injured after her car went off the road Wednesday on Northwoods Boulevard and came to rest against a tree, trapping the victims and preventing rescue crews from extricating them for 45 minutes.

Connie Darling, 34, was airlifted to Washoe Medical Center with fractured ribs, head and back injuries, according to police. The right front passenger, Truckee-resident Kim Gauna, 46, suffered minor injuries.

Officers from Truckee Fire Protection District, Truckee Police Department, California Department of Forestry and California Highway Patrol responded to the scene after dispatch received a call at 4:40 p.m. that a silver Chevrolet Tahoe had driven off the southwest side of the roadway. The investigation is ongoing.
