Mandatory boat inspections underway for Donner Lake
May 23, 2016
TRUCKEE, Calif. — Watercraft inspections are mandatory for all motorized and/or trailered watercraft launching on Donner Lake, per town of Truckee law.
Inspections are to help prevent the introduction of aquatic invasive species into Donner Lake. Non-motorized watercraft may be subject to an inspection prior to entering Donner Lake if determined necessary by the town of Truckee or its designee.
Inspections are available at any of the following Lake Tahoe roadside watercraft inspection stations:
Alpine Meadows, off Highway 89 and Alpine Meadows Road, open daily 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Meyers, off Highway 89 and Pomo Street, open daily 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Spooner Summit, off Highway 50 and 28, open daily 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Truckee-Tahoe, off Highway 267 and Truckee Airport Road, open Thursday-Sunday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Inspections also will occur at the Donner Lake Public Boat Launch, Monday-Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The town of Truckee is continuing to partner with the Tahoe Resource Conservation District to implement inspections.
The town's goal is to better prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species by installing a gate at the Donner Lake Boat Ramp this season. The gate will allow for increased security and ensure all boats are inspected or sealed prior to launching.
The town is seeking input on what hours, days and months the ramp is operated. Visit truckeeboatinspections.com to take a survey and provide input.
"The health of local waters continues to be extremely important to the character, natural beauty, and economic vitality of the Town of Truckee", said Dan Olsen, Truckee Police Department Support Services Manager. "We believe that boaters, anglers, and others who recreate on Donner Lake will continue to embrace the efforts to protect this precious natural resource."
Watercraft identified as high risk will be required to be decontaminated before being able to launch in Donner Lake.
Donner Lake inspection prices and options are as follows:
Annual Inspection (valid for calendar year): $40/vessel
Seasonal Inspection (valid May-September): $25/vessel
Monthly Inspection: $10/vessel
Donner Only (valid for calendar year): $20/vessel
Boaters who certify that their vessel to launch only on Donner Lake are eligible for a Donner Only sticker. Donner Only vessels are required to be inspected and must sign an affidavit verifying the vessel will only be launched in Donner Lake.
Boaters who do not exclusively launch on Donner Lake and visit other waterbodies must submit to monthly or seasonal inspections.
