North Tahoe crime logs: Man with Subaru vendetta angrily declares his car is better

TAHOE CITY, Calif. — Below is a selection of incidents from the Placer County Sheriff’s Office press log for Feb. 1-19, as provided to the Sierra Sun by PCSO officials.

Feb. 1

At 10:30 a.m. on the 1700 Block of Navajo in Olympic Valley, sometime overnight an unknown suspect stole a victim’s skis and snowboard from an unlocked vehicle.

At 9 p.m. on the 1900 Block of Squaw Valley Road in Olympic Valley, an unknown suspect slashed a victim’s tires.

Feb. 2

At 9:15 a.m. on the 130 Block of Tiger Tail in Olympic Valley an unknown suspect stole a victim’s skis out of an unlocked camper shell.

Feb. 4

At 10 a.m. on the 9000 Block of Heartwood in Truckee, an unknown suspect stole landscaping tools from a locked storage container sometime overnight. Estimated $2,700 loss.

At 1 p.m. on the 500 Block of Beaver in Kings Beach, an unknown suspect scrawled “my Subaru STI can kick your ass” into the dirt on a victim’s vehicle. There was no permanent damage. The next day, however, the stem caps were glued to all 4 of the tires’ valve stems, causing $300 in damage.

Feb. 5

At 8 a.m. on the 8100 Block of Steelhead in Kings Beach, sometime overnight an unknown suspext broke out the window to a public building.

At 3:30 p.m. on the 13000 Block of Ritz Carlton Drive in Truckee, an unknown suspect took a victim’s backpack that he left in the lobby. Backpack was later located without the $1.500 worth of personal electronics inside.

Feb. 6

At 1 p.m. on the 1900 Block of Squaw Valley Road in Olympic Valley, a 20-year-old male was cited for a minor in possession of alcohol.

At 7 p.m. on the 3100 Block of Lake Forest in Tahoe City, a victim suspects an acquaintance of stealing her snowboard and other personal items earlier in the day.

At 11:30 p.m. on the 700 Block of North Lake Boulevard in Tahoe City, a female was arrested for public intoxication after refusing to leave a bar and causing a disturbance.

Feb. 7

At 1:45 a.m. on the 700 Block of Granlibakken Road in Tahoe City, a male subject was arrested for domestic violence.

At 9 a.m. on the 2600 Block of Alpine Meadows Road in Tahoe City, a possible known suspect “keyed” a victim’s vehicle while the victim was skiing.

At 5:30 p.m. on the 1900 Block of Squaw Valley Road in Olympic Valley, a search was initiated for a missing snowboarder. Snowboarder was eventually located, uninjured, miles away near Talbot Creek.

Feb. 8

At 2 a.m. on the 7600 Block of Highlands View in Truckee, a female suspect pushed a victim and followed her down the stairs while pulling her hair. Suspect taken into custody for battery, per citizen’s arrest.

At 8:30 a.m. on the 700 Block of North Lake Boulevard in Tahoe City, an unknown suspect spray painted “OTL” on a victim’s backhoe.

Feb. 9

At 12 p.m. at 2501 North Lake Boulevard in Tahoe City, a female turned herself to the Sheriff’s Office for an outstanding warrant. She was cited and released.

At 10:30 a.m. on the 13000 Block of Ritz Carlton Drive in Truckee, an unknown suspect took a victim’s laptop computer from an office in the hotel.

At 11 a.m. on the 5600 Block of North Lake Boulevard in Carnelian Bay, a male subject was arrested for an outstanding warrant out of Placer County.

At 4:30 p.m. on the 5000 Block of North Lake Boulevard in Carnelian Bay, a male subject was taken into protective custody for public intoxication pursuant to a report of a male going through other people’s laundry at the laundromat. Subject was also found to have a warrant.

Feb. 10

At 9 a.m. on the 300 Block of Squaw Creek in Olympic Valley, an unknown suspect removed a pig welder from a business. Estimated $1,500 loss. The welder was returned 5 days later.

Feb. 11

At 12:30 a.m. on the 1400 Block of Mineral Springs in Tahoe City, a victim called to report someone trying to break into his residence. The victim witnessed the male kick in his front door, and that is when the suspect realized he was at the wrong house (which looked identical to his girlfriend’s house, apparently). Male subject was arrested for public intoxication and vandalism.

At 9 a.m. on the 2900 Block of Rose in Tahoe City, a report was taken for embezzlement of a small company.

At 2:30 p.m. on the 2000 Block of Northstar in Truckee, an unknown suspect stole a victim’s iPhone from his backpack.

At 9:15 p.m. on the 8600 Block of Steelhead in Kings Beach, pursuant to a physical altercation, a male subject pulled out a knife and threatened a victim.

Feb. 12

At 2 a.m. on the 500 Block of Bunker in Tahoe City, an incident report was taken for an argument between a male and a female who were breaking up. They were fighting over who gets custody of the dog.

At 8:45 a.m. on the 8300 Block of Trout in Kings Beach, sometime overnight an unknown suspect smashed a victim’s vehicle windshield.

At 9 a.m. at 2501 North Lake Boulevard in Tahoe City, a female turned herself to the Sheriff’s Office for an outstanding warrant. She was cited and released.

Feb. 13

At 11:25 a.m. on the 1100 Block of Bristlecone in Tahoe City, during a welfare check, a subject was located heavily under the influence of a controlled substance. Subject was arrested for possession of possible heroin and 2 outstanding warrants.

At 4 p.m. on the 1700 Block of West Lake Boulevard in Tahoe City, an unknown suspect called a victim, feigning to be a large Utilities company. Suspect said the victim owed $870 in past due charges. Victim paid the amount before realizing he was duped.

Feb. 14

At 3:30 p.m. on the 1900 Block of Squaw Valley Road in Olympic Valley, three subjects were cited and released for skiing in a closed area.

At 4:25 p.m. on the 700 Block North Lake Boulevard in Tahoe City, a male subject was asked to leave a restaurant after becoming belligerent with the manager. He tried unsuccessfully to hit the manager. Suspect was arrested for public intoxication and assault. In the meantime, his girlfriend left the bar and attempted to leave the parking lot. She was pulled over and turned over to CHP for suspected DUI.

Feb. 15

At 7:30 a.m. on the 8200 Block of Steelhead in Kings Beach, sometime overnight an unknown suspect vandalized a statue at a local church.

Feb. 17

At 11:30 a.m. on the 2700 Block of Lake Forest in Tahoe City, a suspect bought a $700 chainsaw using a check from a closed bank account. Suspect apparently has multiple open fraud cases all across Northern California. Case is still under investigation.

Feb. 18

At 11:30 a.m. at 2501 North Lake Boulevard in Tahoe City, a male subject was remanded back to jail after showing up for his court date.

Feb. 19

At 1 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 28 and Sahara in Carnelian Bay, a female subject was turned over to CHP for suspicion of DUI.

At 9 a.m. on the 2300 Block of North Lake Boulevard in Tahoe City, an unknown suspect stole about $200 in firewood from a condo.

At 4:45 p.m. on the 200 Block of Alpine Meadows in Tahoe City, a possible known suspect scratched expletives into a victim’s car door, causing $1,000 in damage.
