North Tahoe crime logs: Two people duped by Craigslist scams, losing $3,800
TAHOE CITY, Calif. — Below is a selection of incidents from the Placer County Sheriff’s Office press log for Dec. 25-31, as provided to the Sierra Sun by PCSO officials.
At 12 p.m. on the 1200 Block of Kings Way in Kings Beach, a victim reporter he pre-paid for a rental house he found on Craigslist. Once he arrived at the vacation home, he discovered he had been swindled out of $1,100.
At 3:45 p.m. on the 3100 Block of Lake Forest in Tahoe City, a report was taken for a verbal dispute between ex-boyfriend/girlfriend. No crime committed.
At 11:50 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 28 and Bear in Kings Beach, a male subject was arrested for an outstanding warrant out of Placer County.
At 2:15 p.m. on the 1900 Block of Squaw Valley Road in Olympic Valley, a male subject was arrested for public intoxication and resisting arrest.
At 11:45 a.m. on the 8700 Block of North Lake Boulevard in Kings Beach, an unknown suspect broke into a commercial business and stole money from the change machine. The suspect was later identified via surveillance video. Charges are pending.
At 5 p.m. on the 2000 Block of Northstar Drive in Truckee, a report was taken for a search and rescue of a lost skier. Male subject was located prior to a full callout.
At 8:30 p.m. on the 900 Block of Carnelian Road in Carnelian Bay, a report was taken for a verbal dispute only.
At 5 p.m. on the 1900 Block of Squaw Valley Road in Olympic Valley, a victim lost his wallet somewhere in the Village on Christmas Day. The Victim noticed $2,000 in charges days later prior to canceling his cards.
At 8:30 p.m. on the 100 Block of West Lake Boulevard in Tahoe City, a male subject was turned over to CHP for suspected DUI.
At 5 p.m. on the 6000 Block of Northstar Drive in Truckee, a report was taken for a lost snowboarder who took a wrong turn out of bounds. Male subject found his way into the Martis Camp subdivision and search was canceled.
At 5:45 p.m. on the 1800 Block of Deer Park in Olympic Valley, a victim pre-paid for a rental house she found on Craigslist. When she arrived at the vacation home, she discovered she was defrauded by a suspect posing as a property manager. Her loss was recorded at $2,700.
At 7:15 p.m. on the 3000 Block of Cedarwood in Tahoe City, an incident report was taken for a verbal dispute. No crime committed.
At 11:30 p.m. on the 5000 Block of North Lake Boulevard in Carnelian Bay, a report was taken for theft of a wallet. Wallet was turned into the business where he lost it, but all the cash was missing.
At 2:20 p.m. at 11262 Donner Pass Road in Truckee, pursuant to annoying an elderly couple, two male subjects were taken into protective custody for public intoxication. No criminal charges sought.
At 11:30 p.m. on the 1700 Block of River Road in Tahoe City, pursuant to a report of an altercation between a cab driver and his occupants, both passengers were arrested for public intoxication. One subject was also charged with vandalism after breaking the window of the taxi.
