Woman’s body found near Truckee; death deemed suspicious

NEVADA COUNTY, Calif. — Nevada County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found Monday morning off Interstate 80 near Truckee.

Fire and medical personnel responded to a call at about 6:20 a.m. of a body in the road under the interstate overpass at Farad, said Sheriff’s Capt. Jeff Pettitt.

They found a black adult female dead in the roadway, and called for a Sheriff’s deputy to respond, Pettitt said.

The woman’s body showed obvious signs of trauma, and is being treated as suspicious because there was no vehicle around, Pettitt said.

It is not known at this point whether the woman was hit by a vehicle and knocked over the overpass, or was the victim of foul play, Pettitt added.

The Farad off-ramp was closed and the state Department of Justice crime lab was called out, along with detectives from the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit.

The scene remains closed for the investigation, and the woman’s identity has not yet been confirmed.
