Deputies arrest transient for alleged sexual assault
Authorities arrested a 34-year-old transient Sunday for the alleged sexual assault of a victim in the Crossroads Shopping Center the previous night.
The victim, a 45-year-old female resident of Albany, Calif., was sexually assaulted while using a pay phone at the shopping center at about 9:30 p.m.
“The victim was making a telephone call when the suspect approached and slid his hands down the rear of her pants,” Nevada County Sheriff’s Captain Gary Jacobson said.
The victim and other witnesses gave officers a detailed description of the suspect, who fled the scene on foot, Jacobson said. At the time, officers were unable to locate the suspect.
The following morning however, during a follow-up investigation behind Albertson’s, an officer on foot made contact with an individual matching the suspect’s description.
Miguel Gonzales, 34, was arrested on charges of allegedly resisting arrest, alleged public drunkenness, alleged battery of a peace officer, alleged possession of false documents and alleged sexual penetration with a foreign object.
Gonzales is being held in the Nevada County jail.
