Developers withdraw lube facility proposal

A pair of developers temporarily withdrew their proposal for an automotive lube facility, delicatessen and car wash on the southeast corner of Highway 267 and Martis Valley Road, following a planning commission meeting July 15 in which many residents objected to the project.

Community Development Director Tony Lashbrook said objections voiced at the meeting were mainly by residents who live in the neighborhoods near the proposed facility.

The site is located one parcel south from the intersection of Highway 267 and Martis Valley Road, inside the boundaries of Sierra Meadows subdivision.

“The big issues were noise, particularly from the car wash, impacting area residences, traffic, and a decline in property values in the immediate area,” Lashbrook said.

The town received numerous letters and a petition with more than 100 signatures in opposition to the project from residents of Sierra Meadows and Ponderosa Palisades.

The applicants, Kim McGrew and Jesse Rogers, withdrew their application when the planning commission gave them the opportunity to do so. A revised proposal will probably be submitted to the town planning department at a later date.

The project proposed the construction of a 7,383-square-foot floor area structure and the use of two parcels consisting of 1.2 acres.

One structure would house all three portions of the business, with two-way access from Martis Valley Road and Highway 267.
