Greyson Howard/Sierra Sun

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit is coordinating the annual mid-winter bald eagle count Friday, Jan. 9 from 9 a.m. to noon, and is looking for public participation.

Last January a total of 10 bald eagles ” eight adults and two immature ” were counted in the Tahoe Basin.

The count will help estimate national and regional bald eagle wintering populations.

The National Wildlife Federation started the count in 1979.
