Disabled Sports USA Far West receives award
TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. — Disabled Sports USA Far West announced it has been honored with a 2013 Top-Rated Award by GreatNonprofits, the leading provider of user reviews about nonprofit organizations.
“We are excited to be named a Top-Rated 2013 Nonprofit,” said Haakon Lang-Ree, executive director, Disabled Sports USA Far West. “We are proud of our accomplishments including providing two annual sport camps for over 30 disabled U.S. service members and their spouse or family member; offering adaptive ski and snowboard lessons at … Squaw Valley and Northstar; and launching a new adaptive paddle sports summer program at Lake Tahoe.”
The Top-Rated Nonprofit award was based on the large number of positive reviews that Disabled Sports USA Far West received written by volunteers, donors and clients. People posted their personal experience with the nonprofit.
For example, one person wrote:
“Disabled Sports truly made our ski trip to Tahoe an AWESOME one. Our son is autistic and I (dad) have had such a tough time trying to get him skiing. We had tried various one-on-one lessons at some of the large resorts, but it wasn’t until our experience with Disabled Sports that things really clicked. My son LOVED it. The instructors were amazingly patient with him. I couldn’t recommend them enough.” — Oct. 31, 2013
While the Top-Rated Awards run through the end of October, Disabled Sports USA Far West was part of the inaugural group to qualify for the year.
“Savvy donors want to see the impact of their donations more than ever,” said Perla Ni, CEO of GreatNonprofits. “People with direct experience with Disabled Sports USA Far West have voted that the organization is making a real difference.”
Being on the Top-Rated list gives donors and volunteers confidence in Disabled Sports USA Far West’s credibility. The reviews by volunteers, clients and other donors show the on-the-ground results. This award is a form of recognition by the community.
