Donner Pass Road closure extended
October 3, 2006
The road closure on Donner Pass Road near Trout Creek has been extended until Oct. 16, with a detour to Jibboom Street and Church Street for downtown Truckee traffic.
Construction crews closed the section of Donner Pass Road on Sept. 27 in order to work on the new Trout Creek bridge, slated to be finished by the end of the month.
The bridge, included in the first phase of the Trout Creek restoration project, addresses flooding in downtown Truckee that caused water damage to Assumption Catholic Church on East Street in January 1997 and December 2005. The overall restoration project, which includes a three-mile stretch of Trout Creek, will rehabilitate the waterway in the next two to five years.
The town opted to replace the too-small culvert that runs under Donner Pass Road with a pre-fabricated culvert, said Dan Wilkins, the Town of Truckee’s director of public works.
Four fiber-optic utility lines will also have to be relocated under the new bridge.
