Donner Summit Bike Time Trial is Sunday
TRUCKEE, Calif. andamp;#8212; Looking for a challenge this weekend? If so, be sure to enter the Donner Summit Bike Time Trial Sunday, Aug. 28.The time trial consists of a 3-mile, 1,200-foot climb to Donner Summit from the west end of Donner Lake to Sugar Bowl Academy. All ages and abilities andamp;#8212; pro and novice andamp;#8212; are welcome.The event, which serves as a fundraiser for Auburn Ski Club Junior Nordic Programs, is a great way to set a personal best up old Highway 40 and support a good cause, said Sally Jones, Auburn Ski Club Nordic director.People can pre-register for the race online at http://www.truckeefunrun.com, or in person at Pacoandamp;#8217;s Bike and Ski Shop in Truckee, or on race day from 8-9 a.m. at the Citizens Bank plaza. Cost is $25 to pre-register, $30 day of race.Riders will warm up along Donner Lake, and theyandamp;#8217;ll start the timed climb at 10 a.m. at the west end of the lake.Last year, Joel Baty took the fastest menandamp;#8217;s time at 15 minutes, 53 seconds (previous record in 2009 andamp;#8212; Alex Taylor, 16:53.8). Also in 2010, Katerina Nash clocked the fastest womanandamp;#8217;s time at 16:45.5, breaking her previous record of 17:32.9,Old 40 will not be closed to through traffic during the event, so everyone andamp;#8212; drivers and riders andamp;#8212; are encouraged to be safe and smart. Riders must stay to the right side of the road and may pass if itandamp;#8217;s safe.
